TYLER, THE CREATOR

experiential design/ graphic design/ branding

ABOUT

Following Tyler, The Creator’s Chromakopia tour stop at Barclays Center, this exclusive afterparty—hosted by American Express—transformed an upscale speakeasy beneath the venue into a moody, cinematic extension of the Chromakopia universe. As graphic design lead, I created a visual identity that subtly referenced the album’s themes of paranoia and power, drawing inspiration from film noir, shadow play, and Soviet-era propaganda—all refined to stay on-brand for Amex.

The event was themed around "games," and I took that prompt as a creative challenge. I conceptualized and designed a custom optical illusion that doubled as a conversation piece—depending on your view, it revealed either Tyler’s silhouette or the marching men featured in his Chromakopia music video. I also designed an intricate, custom maze that cleverly concealed the Amex logo in its path—both graphics pushed me to the edge of my conceptual and visual problem-solving skills and remain some of my proudest moments of design ingenuity.

We completely transformed the space to erase the restaurant identity—building a shipping container-inspired entry tunnel and a massive custom console to block existing seating. I also designed layered “matting-on-matting” poster moments that mimicked figures marching through the walls, along with mail-slot graphics for guests to “peep” into the world of Chromakopia. Every detail was crafted to be clever, immersive, and worthy of Tyler’s surreal creative world.
