Data Visualization/ Print/ packaging/ copywriting
This project is a data visualization that analyzes the trends behind women’s underwear in America. Each colored thread represents one of the top 100 underwear products and track the brand, cut, material, price, and rating given by reviewers of each, exposing the intimate secrets behind what women really prefer in their underwear. This cheeky packaging comes in six variations which represent the six most popular underwear cuts, and the outer packaging pattern represents the keywords that popped up most frequently in the reviews of a respective cut.

After extensive research, our group felt simultaneously surprised and empowered to discover that despite the abundance of sexualized undie ads, most women purchase their underwear for practical reasons. We decided to take a deeper dive into this subject by examining the 100 top-reviewed underwear products in America’s favorite underwear brands, looking at each cut, material, brand, review count, and overall rating given by reviewers. We also combed through the reviews of each product, eventually organizing these reviews by underwear cut and pulling out the most common descriptions.
THE SPARK
To deconstruct the trends of America’s women’s underwear market, threads seemed an appropriate medium, as if we were literally deconstructing underwear. Despite being a labor-intensive decision, we thought only physical threads would be able to capture the soft intimacy of our underwear subject. When combined with other geometric and minimalistic design choices, the design reflected the pragmatic underwear choices regarding a delicate personal choice.
